Who knows, but if you are wanting a really nice Dano U2 reissue in a rare color, here it is!
A little info and history:
The 56-U2’s are a reissue of the original Danelectro guitars, which were a cheaply made and affordable guitar created by Nat Daniels back in 1956. It featured a wooden frame, Masonite top and back, lipstick (yes, real lipstick) pickup covers.
What Nat didn’t expect is that he’d get such a great tone from such lowly materials! So the U2 went on to become a rock & roll staple, with all it’s variants (U1, with one pickup, DC with a double-cut body, and the quasi-acoustic Convertible). Danelectros were used by some of the rock’roll giants back in the day including Jimmy Page.
And then in 1998 the Evets corporation reissued the original guitars, but made in Korea, with all the specs spot-on, even the Masonite and the rosewood bridge.
Soundwise? It is very classic, don’t expect metal tones here, the pickups have quite a low output and the hollowbody brings little sustain. But if you want vintage, cool rock ‘n’ roll tones, it is great for that.
The 56-U2’s hollowness provides a full acoustic voice; amplified, it’s bright, trebly guitar with ample harmonic overtones that cut through a mix. It doesn’t really have a distinctive sound; it’s simply a great-sounding guitar that delivers jangle with both pickups and fatness using the front pickup. The pickup kicks out a Strat-like output, but with more midrange. The playability on the 56-U2 is excellent.
