The Roland TR-808, while not considered a success when released, has now become legendary. It’s analog synthesis created sounds and tones were initially considered substandard compared to the competitors’ sampled sounds. But soon after the demise of the 808, it found new life as music makers and producers started using it in the new forms of music coming out. Rap, hip-hop and EDM were in it’s infancy and the quirky, ‘non-traditional’ sounds and ease of use of the 808 made it the preferred new creative instrument.
The sounds of the 808 can be heard in countless albums from the 80’s & 90’s and is still used and it’s sounds have been sampled and used in modern software.
But this is one of the originals. One of only around 12,000 made from 1980-82.
And this unit is in very good condition. It has been tested and appears to function as it should.
The buttons, knobs and switches function properly.
It HAS NOT, however, had a complete and thorough going over of every single component.
The TR-808 is a sought after and collected part of any music creator’s arsenal and with good reason; it’s easy and fun to use, it’s build quality is good and it’s tones are now legendary.
